la littérature arabe et algérienne

Source: Flickr

Arab and Algerian literature<br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> Since time immemorial , Arabic literature in general and in particular algériene is always developed and participated significantly and the contribution of human knowledge . We knew the existence of the Arab civilization with preeminence in mathematics.<br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> Arab littérrature is enriched its components and also Berber . And its evolution , we also know that Arabic literary pre- Islam has nothing to do with that today . We pay tribute to this page by arabesque LIGHT almost two millennia.<br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> Arabic literature covers all writings ( prose or verse ) written in Arabic. This does not include written with the Arabic alphabet used to transcribe another language as is the case with the Persian or Urdu works . The Arabic term for literature is adab which is derived from a word meaning " to invite someone to a meal " and carries the ideas of politeness , culture and enrichment.<br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> Arabic literature emerged in the sixth century. Previous testimony are only fragments of written language. This is the Qur'an in the seventh century that had the most lasting influence on Arab culture and literature.<br /> <br /> The pre- Islamic literature<br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> The period before the writing of the Qur'an and the development of Islamic civilization is called, in the language of clean and rénovante Koran Jahiliya or " ignorantisme / paganism ." The term " ignorantisme / paganism ", which makes use later especially among Muslims, connotes the idea of a way of living and acting proper to ignore the supposed infidels edifying presence of God. Although there is little evidence of literature written during this period , oral literary tradition is already rich and developed. It is in the last decades of the late sixth century began to develop a real written literary tradition. Early writings will be compiled two centuries later in two books of poetry : the Mu'allaqât and Mufaddaliyat . These synthetic works only give a partial picture of what could be the literature of the time . It is likely that only those poems or parts of poems have been considered the best preserved.<br /> <br /> Quranic period and Islam<br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> The Qur'an was the first major work and most influential of Arabic literature .<br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> The Qur'an had a significant influence on the Arabic language. The language used in the Qur'an gave birth to what we now call " classical Arabic " still enjoys a certain prestige among speakers of modern Arabic dialects . Not only the Koran is the first work of significant length written in Arabic, but it also has a much more complex than the previous literary works with its 114 suras organization (chapters) which contain 6,536 ayats ( verses) structure. It has many literary figures: injunctions , narratives, homilies , parables ( considered divine words ) , as well as instructions and even comments on the Koran itself and how it will be received and understood . Paradoxically , it is also much admired for its many complex metaphors for the clarity of the text , a feature it mentions itself in sura 16:103 .<br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> Although it contains elements of both prose and poetry (which approximates the literary genre saj ' or rhythmic prose ) , the Qur'an is considered a unique work which does not fall within these literary classifications. The text is understood as a divine revelation, and it is considered eternal and uncreated . This particular approach has led to the emergence of the doctrine of I'jaz or " inimitability of the Qur'an " , which states that no one can copy his literary style or even should try. Proscribing written Koranic inspiration, this doctrine of I'jaz may be a bit limited the impact of the Qur'an on Arabic literature . This probably put pressure on the pre-Islamic poets of the sixth century , whose popularity among the people put them in competition with the Koran. Indeed, one then finds a clear lack of poets worthy of the name until the eighth century . A notable exception , however, is to be met, it is Hassan ibn Thabit who wrote poems in praise of Muhammad and was known as the " poet of the Prophet ." Just as the Bible has held an important place in the literature of foreign languages, even the Quran Arabic permanently marked . It is the source of many ideas, allusions and quotes and its moral message influenced many subsequent works.<br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> Apart from the Koran, the Hadith , which record the tradition of what Muhammad is supposed to have said and done in his life, are a true literary sum . All such acts and works are called sunnah or " the way." Among the hadiths , some considered more authentic , distinguished as the sahih . One of the most emblematic collections of hadith include those of Muslim ibn al- Hajjaj and those of Mohammed al- Bukhari .<br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> Another important literary composition in Koranic studies is the tafsir or "commentary on the Qur'an ." Arab writings relating to religion also includes many sermons and texts of prayers, like the words of Ali which were collected during the tenth century in the Nahj al- Balaghah or "the way of eloquence "<br /> <br /> The Islamic scholarship<br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> Research on the life and times of Muhammad and the determination of authentic parts of sunnah , were one of the first major causes of the development of scholarship in Arabic. One reason for the gathering of pre- Islamic poetry is that some of these poets were close to the Prophet (eg Labid that really met Muhammad and converted to Islam) and their writings illuminated the time at which these events occurred . Muhammad also inspired the first Arabic biographies, known as al - Sirah al- Nabawiyyah name. The first was written by Wahb ibn Munabbih but Muhammad ibn Ishaq who wrote the most famous. While dealing with the life of the Prophet , the scholars also recounted the events and battles of the early Islamic era , and stories also have many digressions on older biblical traditions.<br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> A number of the early work studying the Arabic language were started in the name of Islam. Tradition says that the caliph Ali, after reading a Koran that had errors , asked Abu al- Aswad al- Du'ali to write a book that would codify the Arabic grammar . Later a little more, Khalil ibn Ahmad wrote the " Kitab al- Ayn ," first Arabic dictionary that also included work on prosody and music. His pupil , Sibawayh , will produce the most respected of Arabic grammar , known as " al -Kitab " which simply means "the book" .<br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> Other caliphs exerted their influence on Arabic as Abd al- Malik, who made the official language of the administration of the new empire , and Al- Mamun who founded the Bayt al- Hikma , or "house of wisdom "in Baghdad , the center of research and translation. The cities of Basra and Kufa , which maintained a tough rivalry , were two other important educational centers in the emerging Arab world.<br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> Institutions based primarily in order to analyze in depth the Islamic religion, furnished invaluable in the study of many other subjects. Caliph Hisham ibn Abd al -Malik was instrumental in enriching the literature by teaching scholars translate foreign works into Arabic. The first of these was probably Aristotle's correspondence with Alexander the Great , translated by Salm Abu al-' Ala' . To the east, and in any other genre , Abdullah ibn al- Muqaffa translated the animal fables of the Panchatantra . These translations have kept alive scholarship and education, particularly that of ancient Greece, when Europe was in the Middle Ages . Many of these works were then reintroduced into Europe through Arabic versions .<br /> <br /> Arabic poetry<br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> Main article: Arabic Poetry<br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> Much of Arabic literature before the twentieth century in the form of poetry, and even the writings that do not properly belong to this genus contain snatches of poetry in the form of rhythmic prose or " saj ' ". The themes range from the poetic register solemn prayers to bitter pamphlets or mystics and religious compositions poems celebrating sensuality and wine. A key feature of the poetic genre , which will also be sought in all other literary genres, is the idea that it should be pleasing to the ear . Poetry and much of the prose was written in order to be declaimed aloud , and great care was taken to make all possible as melodious compositions. In fact, " saj ' " originally meant " the cooing of a dove ."<br /> <br /> The non- fictional literature<br /> <br /> Compilations and manuals<br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> Towards the end of Ibn al- Nadim , a Baghdadi bookseller , compiled a work of the utmost importance for the study of Arabic literature . His Kitab al- Fihrist is a catalog of all the books available for sale in Baghdad and it gives a fascinating overview of the state of the literature of this period .<br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> One of the most common forms of literature during the Abbasid period was the compilation. There were collections of facts , ideas, poems, and informative stories about one topic at a time, covering such diverse topics as home and garden, women, riders , blind , jealousy , animals and greed. The last three of these compilations were written by al- Jahiz , an undisputed master of the genre . These collections were very useful to nadim ( companion of a chief or noble ), whose role was often regale their masters with stories and news used to distract or advisor.<br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> Another type of work was closely associated with collections: it is manual , in which writers like ibn Qutaybah gave instructions on topics such as etiquette, how to govern , to be a good bureaucrat even write . Ibn Qutaybah also wrote one of the earliest stories of the Arab people by drawing in both Bible stories and folk tales, but also and especially with reference to historical events.<br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> The theme of sexuality was frequently explored in Arabic literature . The ghazal or love poem has a long history, being sometimes tender and pure, and other times much more explicit . In the Sufi tradition , love poems experience a wide mystical and religious significance . Sex guides were also written such as "The Perfumed Garden ", the al- Tawq Hamamah (" Necklace of the Dove ") of ibn Hazm and Nuzhat al- fi -ma albab the yujad fi kitab (" Jubilation hearts on this which will never be found in a book ") of Ahmad al- Tifachi . Other works will oppose such works as Rawdat muhibbin wa - al- al- nuzhat mushtaqin (" The prairie lovers and lovers distracted distraction ") Ibn Qayyim al- Jawziyya , which advises on how to separate love and lust and avoid sin.<br /> <br /> Biographies, and tales of travel<br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> Outside of the first biographies of Muhammad, the first major biographer to deepen the characters rather than be limited to writing carols was al- Baladhuri who with his Kitab al- ashraf ansab or "Book of noble genealogies " presents a real collection biographies. Another important biographical dictionary was begun by ibn Khallikan then supplemented by al- Safadi . Finally, the Kitab al- I'tibar , which tells us the life of Usamah ibn Munqidh and experience battles of the Crusades, formed one of the first autobiographies importance. Some text imprint the shape of the sira (biography ) to works of fiction , such as Sayf ibn Dhi Yazan sirat .<br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> Ibn Khordadhbih apparently an official postal service at the time, wrote one of the first guidebooks. The shape became popular later in Arabic literature through Istakhri al- al- al- Idrisi Muqaddasi and works of Ibn Hawqal , ibn Fadlan , than those of Ibn Battuta which travel remained memorable . These works gave a fascinating view of the many cultures of the vast Islamic world and also offered the prospect of converting non- Muslims to the ends of the empire peoples. They made also know how Muslims had become a commercial power foreground. Most often, these works took the form of reports abounding geographical and historical details. They gave birth to a literary genre in its own right which is called in Arabic rihla ( رحلة ) which translated means "journey" .<br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> Some writers focused on history in general , as al- Ya'qubi and al-Tabari , while others focalisèrent on periods and specific locations , such as ibn al- Azraq which tells the story of Mecca or ibn Abi Tahir Tayfur , who wrote one of Baghdad. Among Arab historians, Ibn Khaldun it is considered the greatest thinker . His column Muqaddima , which takes the subject of study for society , is a founding text of sociology and the Arab economy .<br /> <br /> Fictional literature<br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> An Arabic version of the Thousand and One Nights ( Kitab alf layla wa layla ألف ليلة وليلة ) .<br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> There is comparatively little prose fiction in Arabic literature , although many non- fictional works contain short stories. A large proportion of these were probably trumped up or embellished . The absence of full -fiction is partly due to the distinction between a- fusha , scholarly language , and al- ammiyyah , popular language. Some writers have tried to write works in the vernacular , but it was felt that this literature was to improve and provide more specific objectives , that is to say, be more instructive rather than just having a entertaining goal. This view , however, did not put an end to the traditional role of " hakawati " or storytellers who kept telling distracting episodes education and the many fables and folktales that were not usually recorded by works writing.<br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> Tales of the Arabian Nights , which are among the best known of Arabic literature and still have an important impact on the ideas that non - Arabs in the Arab culture, however, are a notable exception to the lack of fiction . Although considered of Arab origin , they were actually developed from Persian works , and the stories itself may have roots in India . The stories of Aladdin and the Wonderful Lamp and Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves are good examples of the lack of popular fictional prose in Arabic. Usually considered as episodes of The Thousand and One Nights , they do not actually part of the original tales . They were included there for the first time in the French translation of stories by Antoine Galland , who had heard from the mouth of a traditional storyteller. Previously they only existed in incomplete Arabic manuscripts . Another colorful character of the fictional Arabic literature Sinbad , comes well , he Thousand and One Nights.<br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> The Thousand and One Nights are usually stored in the genre of epic Arabic literature , along with numerous other works. These are usually collections of short stories or episodes strung together into one long story. The extended versions were documented , mostly quite late , after the fourteenth century, although many of them were undoubtedly collected earlier and many of the original stories probably date back to the pre- Islamic era. In these collections you can find many different types of stories such as animal fables , proverbs , stories of jihad and the spread of the faith, humorous tales, moral tales , and even stories dealing with characters features like cunning rogue or prankster Ali Zaybaq Joha .<br /> <br /> the maqama<br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> Gender maqamat ( مقامة ) , an intermediate form of rhymed prose , not only transcends the distinction between prose and poetry is also a middle way between the fictional and non- fictional genres. Apart from a series of short stories are fictions drawn from real life situations , other topics are considered. A famous example is the maqama on musk, which is presented as a comparison of the characteristics of different flavors , but is actually a political satire masked by the comparison between several sovereign competitors. The maqamat also makes use of the doctrine of " badi " which involves the deliberate addition of complex literary phrases intended to show the linguistic skill of the writer. Al- hamadhani is considered the founder of maqamat genre and its work was taken over by Abu Muhammad al -Qasim al -Hariri , the editor of a maqamat which is a study of Al- Hamadhani work itself. The maqamat was an incredibly popular genre of Arabic literature . He was one of the few forms that we continued to use during the decline of Arabic literature in the seventeenth and eighteenth century and Gibran Khalil Gibran reinvested in the twentieth century.1 .<br /> <br /> The decline of classical Arabic literature<br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> The expansion of Arab populations in the seventh and eighth centuries made contact with a variety of different peoples who have gradually influenced their culture. The ancient Persian civilization was , of all , the one that had the greatest impact on Arabic literature . Persia always liked to think of themselves as the epitome of Islamic culture in spite of the decline of its influence for centuries. " Shu'ubiyya " is the name of the quarrel between the rough life , rural and desert Arabs in the Persian world, easier and more refined . While this has caused heated debates among scholars and contributed to the diversification of literary styles, it was not a prejudicial conflict because there were more important things to do at the time, such as forging a single Islamic cultural identity . The writer Persian Bashshar ibn Burd summed up his own position in the next few lines of poetry :<br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> He never sang the songs of camels behind a mangy beast,<br /> <br /> Nor pierced bitter colocynth , completely starved<br /> <br /> Nor a lizard dug from the ground and ate ...<br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> The cultural heritage of the Arab desert habitats continued to show its influence even though many writers and scholars lived in major Arab cities. Khalil ibn Ahmad when listed the parts of poetry, he named stanzas " bayt " , which means "tent" , and feet " Sabah " , which means " tent rope ." Even in the twentieth century nostalgia for the simple desert life appeared in the literature or at least the later writings were thoroughly revived day. A slow resurgence of Persian and relocation of the government and the main learning centers in Baghdad reduced the production of Arabic literature . Themes and genres of Arabic prose were mostly taken in Persian by authors like Omar Khayyam , Attar and Rumi , all of which were clearly influenced by the early works . At first, the Arabic language retained its importance in the political and administrative fields , but with the rise of the Ottoman Empire, its use was restricted to one religion only. Thus, in the Persian side , the many variations of Turkish languages dominate the literature of the Arab region until the twentieth century , all incorporating sporadic influences of Arabic.<br /> <br /> Modern Arabic literature<br /> <br /> the nahda2<br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> Called modern Arabic literature literature that begins with the Nahda ( نهضة ) . This term , it is called Renaissance literally means awakening , boom, off. This movement is historically determined from the nineteenth century. It accompanies the long agony of the Ottoman Empire , which at the beginning of the century still includes most of the Middle East and North Africa. It is the first contemporary Western greed , France, UK and Italy vying these provinces of the Empire will be gradually dismembered until finally disappearing in 1923. It is the indirect result of two politico -religious reformism that have arisen in the middle of the seventeenth century : that of Mohammed ibn Abd al- Wahhab (1703-1792) , who preached a return to primitive Islam , stripped of later innovations in the ninth century , and that of the brotherhood of Senussi (Libya) who advocated , in 1835 , the national resurrection and fought against the Ottomans first, then Italians. This awakening is also the result and one of the engines of economic, social and political reforms that the Sublime Porte was gradually forced to consent, and those following the campaign of Napoleon Bonaparte (1798-1801) were started in Egypt by Muhammad Ali (1805-1839) and continued by his grand- son of Isma'il ( 1863-1879 ) . It is finally in Lebanon and Syria , the consequence of the increased activity of missionaries who use Arabic as their teaching based schools and military , and install printers . This combination of factors will gradually transform mentalities , so that the mid- century emerges in the Middle East that has been called the modern intellectual . This is the mid-nineteenth is sometimes dated Nahda , the awakening of Arab letters occurring at that time. However, it is often assumed that the event which marks the beginning is the Egyptian campaign of Napoleon, since it is at this time that the modern world is its intrusion into the region. Between 1798 and 1801 , Bonaparte will occupy Egypt to cut the route to India to the British and make a colony. The French army routs the Mamluk governors, and occupied the country , which will complete disrepute former rulers in Arab eyes . She is accompanied by technicians , administrators , scientists, which excite the curiosity of ' ulama ' and introduce Western learning . The chronicler and historian Abd al- Rahman al- Jabarti (1753-1825) provides a valuable record of this wonder of the elite, doubled the awareness behind their country in Europe . French military project fails , however , to their departure, the ' ulama ' will try to prevent the return to power of the Mamluks and elect as governor Muhammad Ali , an Albanian officer in the Turkish army. Thereof , military, 's priority modernization of the army and the state apparatus . However, he is aware that any reform through the formation of an elite and therefore the establishment of an open education policy. To this end , he founded the first Egyptian printing Bulaq in 1822 , opens secular schools , primary and secondary , and sends scholarship students train in Europe . These three factors are the key drivers of the revival of Arabic literature.<br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> This revival was not only felt in the Arab world but also beyond, through a large European interest in the translation of Arabic works . While the use of Arabic was revived , many tropes of classical literature that made it so complex and ornate were abandoned by modern writers. On the other hand , the Western literary forms such as new or novel were preferred to the traditional forms of Arabic literature.<br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> Just as the eighth century, when movement of translation from the ancient Greek revitalization Arabic literature , another translation movement from Western languages will offer new ideas and new materials for Arabic. An early success was The Count of Monte Cristo , which then inspired a wealth of historical novels specifically Arab themes. Rifa'a al- Tahtawi and Jabra Ibrahim Jabra were two important translators of that time.<br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> During the second half of the twentieth century , major political changes in the Arab world have made life more difficult writers . Many of them have suffered from censorship , as Sun'allah Ibrahim and others were imprisoned as Abdul Rahman Munif . At the same time , those who had written favorable pieces governments were promoted to high positions in cultural institutions . Reviewers and scholars also drafted policy controversies and criticisms aimed at reshaping Arab politics . Among the best known one is the future of culture in Egypt Taha Hussein , who was a major work on Egyptian nationalism , or the works of Nawal el Saadawi who campaigned for women's rights .<br /> <br /> The contemporary Arabic novel<br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> Renewal period nahda was characterized by two major trends :<br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> the neoclassical movement , " Ihyâ " ( احياء ) , which literally means " resuscitation " or " revival " and that is to turn to the classical Arabic heritage to reinvent it . This movement sought to rediscover the literary traditions of the past and was influenced by traditional literary genres such as maqama and The Thousand and One Nights.<br /> <br /> the modernist movement , " Iqtibâs " ( اقتباس ) , which literally means " lighting the fire in the home of another " and that is to draw inspiration from the European literary works or to adapt or imitate . This movement was born with the translation of Western works , primarily novels, into Arabic.<br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> Throughout the nineteenth century, many authors explore the relationship between East and West. Among them are the reformer Rifa'a al- Tahtawi (1801-1873) Ali or Mubarak ( 1823-1893 ) . Individual authors in Syria , Lebanon, and Egypt created original works by mimicking the classic maqama . One of the most remarkable was Muhammad al- Muwaylihî , whose book The Hadith of Isa ibn Hisham ( حديث عيسى بن هشام ) constituted a critique of Egyptian society during the reign of Ismail Pasha . This work represented the first step in the development of modern Arabic novel . This trend was followed by Georgy Zeidan , a Lebanese Christian writer who emigrated with his family to Egypt following the Damascus riots in 1860. In the early twentieth century , Zeidan published his historical novels as serials in the Egyptian newspaper al- Hilal . These novels were extremely popular thanks to the clarity of their expression, their simple structure and vivid imagination of the author. Khalil Gibran and Mikha'il Na'ima were two other major writers of this period . Both philosophical musings incorporated it in their works.<br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> Nevertheless, literary critics do not consider the works of these four authors as true novels, but as forerunners of the forms that will embody the modern Arabic novel . Many of these criticisms refer Zaynab , the novel by Muhammad Husayn Haykal as the first true novel in Arabic , but others prefer it Adraa Denshawi Muhammad Tahir Haqqi . One of the recurring themes of modern Arabic novel is the study of family life , which presents an obvious parallel with the International Arab family in the world. Number of novels could not avoid political issues and conflicts in the regions where the war has often played a substantive role in the development of family tragedies. Naguib Mahfouz 's works depict life in Cairo and Cairo Trilogy , which describes the struggles of a modern family through three generations Cairo , earned him the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1988. He was the first Arab writer to win this award .<br /> <br /> The Arts<br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> It is only in modern times that the theater and the arts have become a visible part of the Arabic literature. He may have had an older theatrical tradition , but it was probably never considered legitimate and most of these works was never recorded. There are, however , a long tradition of public performances among Shiite Muslims which consist of a piece depicting the life and death of Hussein bin Ali at the Battle of Karbala in 680 AD - AD. You can also find many pieces composed by Shams al- Din Muhammad ibn Daniyal in the thirteenth century. At that time he mentions that the old theater have become outdated and therefore offers his work as new material.
