Timgad: l'illustre cité antique

C'est une cité antique située sur le territoire de la commune éponyme de Timgad, dans la wilaya de Batna dans les Aurès, au nord-est de l'Algérie, surtout connue pour les vestiges de la ville romaine de Thamugadi à côté de laquelle elle a été fondé.

C'est un site archéologique de i l Lhéologique de premier plan. La ville romaine, qui portait le nom de Thamugadi (colonia Marciana Traiana Thamugadi) dans l'Antiquité, a été fondée par l'empereur Trajan en 100 et dotée du statut de colonie. Il s'agit de la dernière colonie de déduction en Afrique romaine.

Bâtie avec ses temples, ses thermes, son forum et son grand théâtre, la ville, initialement d'une superficie de 12 hectares, finit par en occuper plus d'une cinquantaine. La ville, au vu de son état de conservation et du fait qu'on la considérait comme typique de la ville romaine, a été classée au patrimoine mondial de l'humanité par l'UNESCO en 1982.

Elle connait un festival de musique de renommée mondiale , se produit une pleiade de stars  comme Kaled dans le théatre romain.

Timgad was constructed as a bastion against the Berbers in the Aurès Mountains, by emperor Trajan in AD 100. The city was built after the best Roman plans, with shops, taverns and craftsmen selling from own stalls, as well as a forum almost in the centre, and a theatre just south of this.

The area where Timgad lies was earlier a fertile agricultural area, lying 1,000 metres above sea level, with plenty of water running down from the mountainous hinterland. But human exploitation has removed trees and soil, and the surroundings of Timgad is presently at the mercy of Sahara.

Even if Berbers and Arabs each have destroyed Timgad partly, most of the place have been saved by no new settlements on the spot, as well as sand covering it for centuries. A lot of Timgad is therefore in perfect condition. At least all that is below half a metre high. Some high constructions, like the theatre and Trajan's Arch still stand. The theatre is used for happenings even today.

شيد تيمقاد معقلا ضد البربر في جبال الأوراس، من خلال الإمبراطور تراجان في 100 ميلادي. بنيت المدينة بعد أفضل الخطط الرومانية، مع المحلات التجارية والحانات والحرفيين بيع من الأكشاك الخاصة، فضلا عن منتدى تقريبا في المركز، ومسرح الواقعة إلى الجنوب من هذا.



كانت المنطقة التي تقع تيمقاد في وقت سابق وهي منطقة زراعية خصبة، والكذب 1،000 متر فوق مستوى سطح البحر، مع الكثير من الماء يهرول من المناطق النائية الجبلية. ولكن استغلال الإنسان وإزالة الأشجار والتربة، ومحيط تيمقاد هي حاليا تحت رحمة الصحراء.



حتى لو دمرت كل البربر والعرب تيمقاد جزئيا، أكثر من مكان تم حفظها من قبل أي مستوطنات جديدة على الفور، وكذلك الرمال تغطي عليه لعدة قرون. لذا هناك الكثير من تيمقاد هو في حالة ممتازة. على الأقل كل ما هو أقل من نصف متر ارتفاع. بعض الإنشاءات عالية، مثل المسرح وقوس تراجان لا تزال قائمة. يتم استخدام المسرح لمجريات حتى اليوم.
